Assam Rifles Conducts Tree Plantation Drive in Lunglei, Lawngtlai & Saiha district

AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) carried out a tree plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day in Lunglei, Lawngtlai and Saiha district on June 5.

A total of 111 Assam Rifles personnel and 72 civilians of nearby areas attended the same.

The tree plantation drive aimed to spread awareness among locals about the importance of tree plantation and how it has a direct impact on our lives. India is facing many environmental issues such as air pollution, water pollution and degradation of forests. All this has resulted in increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, land and ocean temperatures, sea-level rise, melting ice and extreme weather. Climate change has also impacted the socio-economic development of the country. Ecosystem restoration is a need of the hour and can happen through active planting, stated a release. Thus, the Assam Rifles took the initiative and Lunglei Battalion celebrated World Environment Day in the entire South Mizoram by planting 1,372 saplings in the hope of a sustainable and prosperous future for the entire nation.
