Assam Rifles holds various civic programmes across Mizoram

AIZAWL: To promote the overall development of children, artistic and creativity competitions were organized in the border villages within all COBs/POB (including Ngopa, Mimbung, Kawlbem, New Vaikhawtlang, and Hnahlan) across Mizoram. This was one of the many civic action initiatives undertaken by the Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sect Assam Rifles/ Inspector General Assam Rifles(East) on February 25.

The drive motivated the children to get involved in creative things which are essential for the overall development of their mental faculty. These skills help the children to analyze what they see and make choices based on visual information. Creating projects of arts and crafts also assist in developing the executive function, which includes the working memory, mental flexibility and self-control.

A total of 52 students participated in the competitions. The participants were given the freedom to decide their own themes. It was a platform for the students to express themselves through art and showcase their creativity. The students responded beyond expectations with their brush and colours. After the competitions, prizes were distributed. This multi-faceted effort by the Assam Rifles was well received by the people at border villages. The village chiefs and general public appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles and requested them to continue with such socially advantageous events in future.

ANTI-MALARIA AWARENESS LECTURE & MEDICAL CAMP: The Lunglei (Naga hills) Battalion conducted an anti-malaria awareness lecture & medical-aid camp at Siashi Village by COB Tuipang on February 25. The aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment to the local populace by a specially constituted medical team of this unit. The team examined 75 patients, carried out rapid malaria tests besides distributing free medicines to the needy locals. A lecture on Anti Malaria awareness was also organised by the medical team.

CAREER COUNSELING SESSION PHASE-II: With an aim to strengthen relations and channelize the youth towards employment opportunities, the Serchhip Battalion conducted a career counselling session (phase-II) at Battalion Headquarter, Serchhip on February 24. The nine civilian participants were given information about various recruitment and entrance opportunities existing in Northeast and rest of India. Samples of various forms were demonstrated to the audience and the correct procedure of filling up the forms was discussed in detail. Expressing their gratitude to the Assam Rifles, the young participants urged the Assam Rifles to conduct more such sessions at periodic intervals.

WEAPON DISPLAY: The Lunglei (Naga Hills) Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) organized a 'Weapon Display' programme at Government Higher Secondary School and ECM Higher Secondary School of Saiha Village on the occasion of 'World Scout Day' on February 22. The aim of the programme was to motivate the local youth and brief them regarding the future prospects of joining the armed forces through various entry schemes. The eligibility criteria was explained in terms of age, qualification and physical standards. A total of 60 students along with four teachers attended this programme.

DEWORMING PROGRAMME: As part of the 'National Deworming Day', the Lunglei (Naga Hills) Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles organized a "Deworming Programme" at Assam Rifles Public School, Lunglei and Anganwadi Centre, Sethlun on February 23. The aim of the programme was to eradicate parasitic worm infestation in school children. Tablet 'Albendazole' was distributed to 130 children of 1 year to 19 years of age group.

COVID AWARENESS CAMPAIGN: The 3 (Naga Hills)Battalion of Assam Rifles organized a 'COVID-19 Awareness Campaign' at Khaikhy Village in Mizoram on February 22. The campaign focused on the precautionary measures and the Do's & Dont's during COVID-19 pandemic to avoid any loss of life due to COVID-19. The awareness campaign was attended by 18 villagers, stated press statements of the Assam Rifles.
