AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), distributed various essential items to economically weak families in villages of Tuipang in Mizoram recently, stated a press release.

These families had almost consumed their ration stocks and had no option to arrange food or ration for themselves. The noble gesture on part of Assam Rifles and their sincere concern will go a long way in further consolidating the harmonious relations prevailing between the locals and the Assam Rifles.

Earlier, the Lunglei Battalion also conducted a gynaecology camp at Tuipang recently.

The camp was conducted with the aim of providing gynaecology-related advice and medical facilities to the local population as the district does not have a gynaecologist. A specialist and a technician from Lawngtalai Civil Hospital were specially called for this event. The gynaecology specialist was assisted by Assistant Commandant Nirmala, Medical Officer of Lunglei Battalion.

A total of 313 local ladies, girls and pregnant woman have benefitted from this camp. Medicines were also distributed free of cost during the gynaecology camp. The Lunglei Battalion also provided transportation facilities like bus and ambulance to facilitate movement of villagers from far-flung places. The gynecologist Dr Zikpui was felicitated during event and the people expressed special gratitude to her for her service.

The Lunglei Battalion, keeping in line with its resolve to provide assistance to local populace of south Mizoram, had organized the camp, the first of its kind in the region, to cater to the needs of local women. Assam Rifles has once again proved its commitment towards development of remote areas of south Mizoram, keeping the motto of Friends of the Hill People as its guiding principle. The local civil administration and populace of Tuipang and neighbouring villages appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles for the services rendered.

Meanwhile, the Lunglei Battalion conducted a lecture on Skill Development Farming Technique at Zorinpui village. A total of 23 local residents attended the lecture.

The aim of the lecture was to impart knowledge to farmers in order to generate income, improve agricultural development and adopt modern technologies for social welfare of underprivileged community. The lecture also gave them guidelines as to how they can access markets to get good prices for their produce.

The locals of Zorinpui village were very happy and expressed their gratitude for the initiative taken by Assam Rifles.

According to another press release, the Lunglei Battalion conducted a lecture on cleanliness drive at the Company Operating Base (COB) at Saiha in Mizoram.

A total of 32 students attended the camp. The event was conducted to provide an insight to the local residents about the importance of hygiene, sanitation and its benefits for individuals.

The lecture also taught villagers that cleanliness plays a crucial role in everyone's life. Also, it is vital for a healthy body, mind, and soul. Cleanliness is a way of living a happy and healthy life in a clean environment. It is the parents' responsibility to make their children learn the benefits of cleanliness in their lives.

The event was well appreciated by the local populace and a vote of thanks was delivered by the society for the steps taken by the Assam Rifles, proving their motto of 'Friends of the Hill People'.
