Assam Rifles seized areca nuts worth lakhs in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 11,500 kg of areca nuts in RauntlangI MBarea in Mizoram on December 13.

Based on specific information, the operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force Champhai District.

The approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 32, 20,000. The Customs Preventive Customs Preventive Force of Champhai District seized the contraband item.

The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. The Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
