AIZAWL: An Aizawl-based NGO, the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD), on Sunday appealed to the people, especially church youth organizations and civil societies, to organize voluntary blood donation camps as stocks in various hospitals, especially in Aizawl, are drying up.
While expressing gratitude to the church-based youth organizations and civil societies for donating blood by organizing blood donation camps in December, the AVDB issued a press statement, saying that 1,278 units of blood had been donated, of which 246 donors were women.
The statement read that 944 units of blood were donated to the government-run Civil Hospital in Aizawl, while 216 units were donated to the Zoram Medical College blood bank at Falkawn village and 118 units were given to the Presbyterian Church-run Synod Hospital at Durtlang in Aizawl.
"While expressing our gratitude to the voluntary blood donors, we are appealing to individuals, church-based youth organizations, and civil societies to take up blood donation in January, as there are no sufficient stocks in the hospitals, especially in Aizawl," the AVDB said.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Governor Gen. V.K. Singh (Retd.) said that the state was the first state in the northeast region to distribute property cards under the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme.
