AIZAWL: In a major ceremony held at the Circular Lawn of Raj Bhavan, Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.) awarded the Governor's Unit Citation to 2 Assam Rifles Battalion and 42 Assam Rifles Battalion. The citations have been awarded as a mark of appreciation for outstanding service and devotion to duty.

The Governor addressed officers and their families as well as other dignitaries who attended the function, thanking the battalions for their constant vigil to ensure security and stability in the region. He said this was done as according to the motto of Assam Rifles, "Sentinels of the Northeast," and thanked them for maintaining their composure despite the ongoing difficulties along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Governor Singh underlined the swift response of the battalions in their operations and how they were instrumental in maintaining law and order in Mizoram. He also appreciated their humanitarian activities that were helping the internally displaced persons, reflecting the dual mandate of the Assam Rifles in security and community service.

Brigadier Girish Upadhya of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles was present for the ceremony with other dignitaries and families of the officers of Assam Rifles. The Governor's Unit Citation truly represents the committed efforts and toughness of the Assam Rifles in protecting Mizoram's as well as all Northeastern regions.
