AIZAWL : Mizoram police have arrested one person who allegedly lit a lighter in the middle of the road, near an overturned oil tanker in Tuirial area of Aizawl. The accused has been identified as TBC Lallawmawma, a 28 year old man of Tuirial, who apparently snuffed out 11 lives because of his mindless action.

During the interrogation with the Bawgkawn police, the accused admitted his actions on 29th October 2022. Lallawmawma stated that, he went to collect oil from the tanker just like everybody else but couldn't get enough of it as there was a huge crowd who were collecting the oil from the Lorry. He felt agitated and lit a lighter in the plastic bottle to see if it burns where he collected petrol for himself. He then threw the burning bottle in the middle of the road, which eventually resulted in the massive fire accident. 

The police also informed that the accused tried to hang himself out of guilt when he came to know about the casualties, but was saved by his wife and friend. 

According to the police report, Lallawmawma is under judicial custody since 3rd of November. Along with this, they also mentioned that a taxi and two two-wheeler vehicle got damaged in the episode. 

The death toll has reached to 11 people as of today including the 4 who died on spot. The tragic incident took place on 29th of October 2022 around 4:30 pm in the Tuirial area of Aizawl. A tanker carrying 22,000 litres of petrol was approaching towards Champhai, when it met with an disastrous accident in the Tuirial Airfield premises by turning turtle on the main road. Several people came to collect the spilled petrol from the tanker when unfortunately it caught fire. 4 people lost their lives right on spot and the rest were immediately rushed to the hospital.
