Operation Hunters: Huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered at Zokhawthar

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition comprising two cartons of 1,000 numbers of 12 guage 70-mm gun cartridges and one bike made in Myanmar without any valid documents.

Swift action of the Assam Rifles personnel was carried out under 'Operation Hunters' based on specific information on April 2. The items have been handed over to Zokhawthar Police.

The input from own source was about suspected movement of consignment of weapons and ammunition. The operation was launched in the general area of Zokhawthar Xg 2 (RQ895274). At around 2000 hours, the personnel observed a Myanmar Kenbo Bike (CHN-78W 257 12) negotiating the Tyao R bend at Zokhawthar. On being signaled to halt by the security forces, the individual driving the bike abandoned the vehicle at the spot itself and ran across the dry river bed towards the Myanmar side.

The Assam Rifles personnel pursued the individual; however, they had to stop not to cross into Myanmar. On checking the bike, the consignments were recovered.

The operation was led by Col Junior Mutum and Captain Arjun Arun Kumar and Captain Akshay Dahiya . The team comprised WO Puran Singh and Rfn S Sangliana, stated a press release.
