KOHIMA: Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) reaffirmed its stand on the 1993 resolution of the Angami Public Organisation on "One Government, One Tax." It has served a stern warning to the workers of all Naga political groups that harassment, illegal taxation or extortion against Angami people and business houses within Angami jurisdiction will not be tolerated.
In a statement, AYO said it feared an uptick in such incidents during the festive season. "With the onset of the festive season, harassment and extortion from workers of various Naga political groups are likely to increase significantly," the organization said.
AYO appealed to the Ceasefire Monitoring Group, the Ceasefire Supervisory Board, and all associated agencies to heighten vigilance to ensure the safety of the business community and the general public. The organization underlined the need for action and further warned that defaulters would be dealt with strictly, reiterating its commitment to combating anti-social activities.
The press release called on law enforcement agencies and political groups in Naga to cooperate in creating a safe and peaceful environment in which the community can celebrate the festive season in the true spirit of Christianity.
This reassertion by AYO of "One Government, One Tax" is therefore a reiteration of a cause to protect the rights and well-being of Angami people, more especially so in a period of higher vulnerability-like during festivals.
