Cachar: In a new twist to the tension along the Assam-Mizoram border, Home Secretary Mizoram has said that the man from Assam, Intiyaz Ali was a drug peddler.

According to the home secretary of Mizoram, the deceased was caught by the members of Young Mizo Association, while he was selling 420 mg heroin at Mautui Zau in Vairengte on Sunday evening. He sustained injuries on both of his ankles while trying to flee away.

The YMA members handed over Ali to personnel of Excise and Narcotics department. He was later taken to a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Vairengte, where he was medically examined and was admitted to hospital as he was medically unfit. John Neihlaia, IGP, Mizoram, said that Ali died around 10.30 AM on Monday. It was registered as a case of unnatural death.

The post mortem was done as per the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) guidelines, and the video of post mortem was recorded. A magisterial enquiry is being launched.

Assam Excise, Fishery, and Environment and Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya visited Lailapur and Ali's family on Monday night. He has assured the family of ex-gratia amount very soon.

However, the locals of Lailapur alleged that Ali was first kidnapped, and was later killed by some miscreants of Mizoram.
