GANGTOK: In a shocking incident from Pakyong district in Sikkim, a computer teacher and a non-teaching staff have been arrested on the charges of misconduct with a 13-year-old girl student. The allegations were brought to light after the child made a complaint to her guardian against repeated instances of misconduct by the computer teacher and the staff member.
As per the daily situation report published by Sikkim Police, the student informed that one of the accused had sent her unwanted social media messages, which raised very serious questions about the nature of their interactions. It was also found that the girl had earlier gone to a female teacher to complain, but the teacher reportedly told her not to report the incidents.
As a response to the accusations, two independent First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged by the police under appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused are now in police custody while the investigation is ongoing.
The minor was subjected to a medical examination by the authorities, and they ensured that all legal protocols relevant to the case were being followed. Secondly, the girl was presented before the Child Welfare Committee for further support and protection. This case highlights the importance of handling allegations of misconduct in an institution of learning and ensuring that the children there are safe.
