The Assam Rifles conducted a drone awareness and training session for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel in Agartala on Thursday, in a move aimed at sharpening the security forces' readiness against fast-evolving aerial threats.
A Defence spokesperson called the initiative a meaningful step toward building preparedness against emerging technological security challenges.
The session opened with a structured classroom module where Assam Rifles experts briefed CISF participants on the different types of drones in use today, their technical capabilities, and the security risks they can pose.
Particular attention was given to Standard Operating Procedures — covering how to identify a drone, assess potential threats, and execute appropriate countermeasures in real-time situations.
The theory segment was followed by practical, on-ground training. Personnel observed live drone demonstrations and were trained in basic handling and manoeuvring techniques, giving them direct exposure to drone operations under realistic conditions.
With drones becoming increasingly common across both civilian and security domains, inter-agency training of this kind is designed to ensure that ground-level personnel are not caught off-guard.
Officials noted that joint exercises like this one are essential for strengthening coordination between security agencies and improving overall operational efficiency across the region.
CISF personnel who took part described the training as timely and directly relevant to the current security environment.
The CISF holds a key responsibility in the Northeastern region, securing several airports including the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala — making drone threat awareness particularly critical for its personnel.
The Assam Rifles said it will continue to organize such capacity-building programmes as part of its broader commitment to maintaining operational readiness and inter-agency coordination in the region.
