AGARTALA: Tripura’s Kailashahar Women’s Police Station in Unakoti district arrested Abdul Jalal for allegedly attacking his wife with a sharp blade.
Following a tip-off, police arrested him in the Kubjhar area of Kailashahar on Wednesday night. He was brought before the District Sessions Court on Thursday afternoon.
Kailashahar Women’s Police Station OC Ripita Bhattacharya shared details of the incident with reporters. She explained that on February 20, Abdul Jalal, from Yezoakhaora under Irani Police Station, rode his bike to his in-laws' house in Pakhirbada. There, he brutally attacked his wife, Rukia Begum, hitting her on the head with a sharp blade. Rukia sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the district hospital in critical condition.
After the attack, angry locals set Abdul Jalal’s bike on fire. That same day, Rukia Begum filed a written complaint against her husband, prompting police to register Case No. 06/25. Meanwhile, the accused had been on the run since the incident.
“After weeks of investigation, we managed to track him down and arrest him based on secret information. He was produced before the court on Thursday,” Bhattacharya added.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, a 22-year-old woman had been severely injured in a knife attack in Hatigaon, Guwahati. The accused, identified as Azul Haque, had allegedly approached her from behind and stabbed her in the neck before fleeing the scene. However, locals had apprehended Haque after a brief chase.
