Tripura woman throws acid at man for turning down her marriage offer

Agartala: A woman from Tripura allegedly threw acid at her boyfriend as he refused to marry her. The 27-year-old woman has been sent to 14-day judicial remand by a Khowai local court.

The 30 year old victim is currently at the Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital and is in critical condition. The victim was injured in the respiratory tract, nose and eyes.

The accused woman has been identified as Binata Santhal.

While confessing to the crime, she told the police that she and the man were in a relationship for over 8 years. They knew each other since their school days and they had shifted to Pune after the man completed his graduation. Recently, he got close to a different woman and that infuriated her.

During Durga Puja, the woman met the man at his home in Belcherra village of Khowai in West Tripura and asked him to marry her. When he turned her down, she threw acid on him.
