DHEKIAJULI: The town of Dhekiajuli bid a sorrowful farewell to Avanti Saikia, a respected educator and former headmistress of Dhekiajuli Nagar Nimna Buniyadi Vidyalaya, who passed away on Monday at 7 PM after a prolonged illness.
A dedicated teacher and mentor, Saikia devoted her life to shaping young minds, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. Her unwavering commitment to education and her compassionate approach to teaching made her a beloved figure in Dhekiajuli.
Her last rites were performed on Tuesday at the Dhekiajuli Crematorium, where family, friends, former students, and fellow educators gathered to pay their final respects. The news of her passing away has cast a deep shadow of grief over the Dhekiajuli town with many recalling her kindness, wisdom, and invaluable contributions to the field of education.
Saikia’s passing has been met with heartfelt condolences from various organizations and institutions. Seuj Society, Srijanyam, Dhekiajuli Writers and Journalists Forum, Dhekiajuli Nagar Lower Primary School Alumni Association, Bihu Artists’ Association Assam, and Saptarshi Folk Art and Culture Academy expressed their sorrow, recognizing her as a guiding force in education and community development. Former students and colleagues remembered her as a pillar of strength, a mentor, and an inspiration. Her teaching extended beyond textbooks, instilling in her students the values of integrity, discipline, and lifelong learning.
She leaves behind her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and other family members, along with an extended family of students, admirers, and well-wishers who will forever cherish her legacy. Avanti Saikia’s influence as an educator will continue to live on, etched in the hearts of those she taught and guided.
