
Mohan Barkataky, a resident of Koch Gaon here and an eminent bhaona artiste, breathed his last at his residence due to old-age-related ailments today. He was 98. A dedicated priest, bhaona artiste, an actor and director, Mohan Barkataky was born in 1928 at Koch Gaon and spent his boyhood days at Bholaguri Satra, Kaliabor. He had acquired the skills and techniques of bhaona from Bholaguri Satra and from his family members. His demise has cast a pall of gloom in the entire area. Koch Gaon VDC, Nandikeshar Brahman Samaj, Chilabandha Brahman Samaj, Sonitpur district Brahman Samaj, besides other organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area expressed deep condolences on his demise.
Lochan Bhuyan
Lochan Bhuyan, a resident of Bara Bhuyan village, Sootea, and a known social worker of the locality, breathed his last today due to old-age-related ailments. He was 86. An active member of Assam Agitation, Bhuyan was born in 1939. He had served as a ward member of No. 1 ward of No 6. Sootea GP as a ward member from 2001 to 2005. He was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of the greater Sootea area. Representatives of various organizations and individuals paid homage in the mortal remains of Late Bhuyan.
