Itanagar: A four-member committee has been formed by the Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) to draft an action plan for Olympic-qualified sports disciplines affiliated with the state body.

The move came during the AOA's 14th executive committee meeting, followed by a special general body meeting held at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre here on Thursday.

The meeting also saw the ratification of several key resolutions aimed at ramping up sports development in the state.

In a major push to revive grassroots sports, the AOA welcomed the state government’s decision to reintroduce the Arunachal State Games as an annual event. The house further resolved to fix a permanent date for the games to ensure regularity and better planning.

Confirming Arunachal’s participation in the upcoming 4th North East Games, the association announced that athletes from the state will compete at the event to be held in Agartala, Tripura, from October 26 to November 2.

The house unanimously approved amendments to the AOA's Memorandum and Rules & Regulations, based on recommendations submitted by a three-member expert panel.

In a strong decision aimed at improving performance standards, the AOA de-affiliated 22 state sports associations citing years of inactivity and non-compliance, despite repeated notices. An ad-hoc committee will be formed to run the Arunachal Athletics Association in the interim.

Financial matters were also taken up during the session, with the house approving expenditure statements related to the 38th National Games, 3rd North East Games, and the 4th Arunachal State Games, as presented by the Treasurer.

AOA general secretary Bamang Tago said the association remains committed to identifying and nurturing sports talent across the state.

“We are working in tandem with the government to realise the Olympic Mission envisioned by the Chief Minister Pema Khandu,” he added.
