GUWAHATI: In a dramatic finish at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Mahendra Singh Dhoni made headlines by becoming the all-time leading run scorer for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday. Despite Dhoni's impressive performance, which included two sixes and a four in the final over, CSK suffered a 50-run defeat.

Entering the match, Dhoni needed just 19 runs to surpass Suresh Raina's long-standing record of 4,687 runs. He achieved this milestone with his first six off Krunal Pandya in the last over, bringing his total to 4,699 runs in the IPL for CSK after 236 matches. The top run-scorers of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the history of the IPL are headed by MS Dhoni with 4,699 runs. Suresh Raina is second with 4,687 runs. Faf du Plessis is third on the list with 2,721 runs, and Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 2,433 runs for the team. Rounding out the list is Ambati Rayudu, who has scored 1,932 runs for CSK.

Though Dhoni's late-order batting gave a ray of hope, it was not sufficient to win the match for CSK, who required 98 runs in the last 28 balls. Dhoni also displayed his wicket keeping skills with an incredible stumping of Phil Salt in 0.16 seconds. This was RCB's first victory over CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium since 2008, and the overall head-to-head record now reads 22-11 in favor of CSK.
