Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini on Friday called upon the youth to be the torchbearers of society and take full advantage of the sports facilities provided by the government.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the fourth edition of Arunachal Yuva Samanay (AYS) at Kombo Jirdin in West Siang district, Jini encouraged young people to strive for excellence in both sports and academics.

He also announced that the fifth edition of AYS will be organized next year.

The minister informed the gathering that state Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik was unable to attend the function due to inclement weather but conveyed his message to the delegates and participants.

State Chief Information Commissioner Maj Gen (Retd) Jarken Gamlin, who attended as the chief guest, urged the youth to focus on their studies, emphasizing that education is the backbone of every society.

“The future of society depends on the youth. Our state reflects unity in diversity, and I appeal to young people to work for the betterment of Arunachal Pradesh,” Gamlin stated.

Brigadier Md Shahid Ahmad also addressed the gathering, motivating the youth to strive for excellence.

Earlier, Sports & Youth Affairs Director Ramesh Linggi highlighted the objectives of the event, which aimed to promote youth engagement and development.

The four-day event was organized by the state Sports & Youth Affairs Department, in collaboration with the West Siang district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage and the local organizing committee of Kombo Jirdin village.

Kombo-Jirdin ZPM Momar Lollen coordinated with local organizers and stakeholders to ensure the success of the event.

The function concluded with Gamlin and Brigadier Ahmad distributing prizes to the winners of various competitions.
