GUWAHATI: Assam Olympic Association (AOA) gave a grand felicitation to Devajit Saikia who recently elected as the Secretary of the Borad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The event, held at the RG Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati, was graced by AOA Secretary Lakhya Konwar, Treasurer Ashok Bharali, and the President of the Guwahati Sports Association, Paresh Chandra Das.
During the felicitation ceremony, Lakhya Konwar, Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association, expressed his pride in Saikia’s achievement. He stated, “This is a truly proud moment for all of us, and we should celebrate it together. I am confident that under his leadership, Indian cricket will reach new heights.”
As part of the ceremony, Saikia was honored with traditional Assamese items, including a Gamocha and Xapi, as well as a glittering memento presented by key officials of the AOA. Several other sports associations also extended their congratulations and felicitations to Saikia in the same event.
Addressing the gathering, Saikia expressed his gratitude to the AOA and the various sports organizations for their support. “I thank you all for this overwhelming love and recognition. Your contributions to the field of sports have played a pivotal role in my journey, and you all deserve credit for my success,” he remarked.
He further emphasized his vision for Assam, stating, “We are working to establish Assam as the sports capital of India. Several officials from the State now hold key positions in national bodies, which is proving beneficial for our players in terms of preparation and access to facilities.”
Highlighting the professionalism required in his new role, Saikia said, “The work at BCCI is highly professional, and there is no room for error. In the coming months, we have several major cricket tournaments, including the Champions Trophy, and we are focused on ensuring success.”
Saikia also feels that Assam cricket is going on right direction. “When I took charge as the Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), we committed to developing new cricket infrastructure across the State. The work is progressing smoothly, with construction already completed at several locations, while others are nearing completion. These facilities will play a pivotal role in nurturing budding talent in the State,” he stated.
