GUWAHATI: The Assam Pickleball Association (APA) shared its achievements and future expansion plans during a press meet held in the city on Saturday. The event also honored the athletes who represented Assam at the recently concluded National Pickleball Championship and won medals.
Speaking at the press meet, Nazneen Rahman, Secretary of APA, lauded the dedication and hard work of the state’s athletes, which resulted in a commendable performance at the National Pickleball Championship, held at Bennett University, Greater Noida recently. The Assam contingent secured two medals—Babita Langthasa won silver in the 50+ Women’s Singles category, while Nazneen Rahman and Babita Langthasa claimed bronze in the 50+ Women’s Doubles category. Both the medal winners received kits and cash awards in the event.
Buoyed by this success, APA is now focused on expanding pickleball across the northeastern states. Key initiatives include: Setting up centers in key northeastern states to provide professional coaching and infrastructure, creating competitive platforms for players to showcase their skills and gain national exposure and encouraging young talent to take up the sport and develop their potential.
Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport, is played on a court with paddles and a hollow plastic ball. It combines elements of tennis, table tennis, and badminton, making it an accessible and engaging game for all age groups. At present there are around 60 players across the State.
