GUWAHATI: The North East Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) and Global FC secured their spots in the semi-finals of the 70th Bordoloi Trophy Football competition at Judges Field in the city on Saturday. NFRSA triumphed 2-0 over former champions ASEBSC in the first quarter-final, while Global FC followed up with a 3-1 victory against Dubi Sports Association in the second quarter-final. The two victorious teams will now face off in the first semi-final on March 10.

NFRSA vs ASEBSC: NFRSA displayed superior control throughout the match, dominating both halves. Their first goal came in the 36th minute when Akash Dutta converted a well-placed pass from Prabik Ghishing, finding the back of the net. ASEBSC struggled to break down NFRSA’s defense and were unable to create significant scoring opportunities.

In the second half, NFRSA continued their solid performance, frustrating ASEBSC with their tight marking and limiting their space for attack. The second goal came in the 78th minute when Souvik Kar expertly converted a free kick just outside the box, sending the ball past the defensive wall into the net.

ASEBSC had one close chance in the second half but Hiteswar Hazowary’s shot struck the bar.

Global FC vs Dubi Sports Association: Global FC staged a remarkable comeback to register a 3-1 win over Dubi Sports Association. Dubi Sports Association took the lead in the fifth minute when Debajit Horo converted a spot kick after Dubi Sports Association penalized due to a handball inside the box.

However, Global FC gained control of the game after the first quarter, launching a series of attacks. Their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute when Nicodim Narzary equalized. Nicodim was unmarked inside the box and he calmly finished with a well-placed shot. The turnaround continued in the 45th minute, with Eyob Rabha scoring to give Global FC a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Global FC pressuring Dubi Sports Association relentlessly. Despite several close calls, Dubi’s goalkeeper, Hemin Boraik, made several brilliant saves to keep his side in the game. On the other hand in the 57th minute, Mattas Horo came to the rescue with a goal-line clearance, denying Global their third goal.

Finally, in added time, Binanda Narzary sealed the victory for Global FC, scoring the third goal and ensuring their place in the semi-finals. The match was notably clean, with no yellow or red cards handed to any player, making it one of the most disciplined games in this edition of the competition.

Sunday’s schedule: NorthEast United FC vs Rani Coaching Centre (3rd Qtrs. 2-30 PM). Shillong Lajong FC vs Lenroul FC  (4th Qtrs. 4-30 PM).
