GUWAHATI: A sensational bowling performance by Rohit Singh (6/11) put Guwahati firmly in control on the opening day of their Nuruddin Senior Inter-District Cricket Championship match against Goalpara, held at Goalpara on Sunday.
After being invited to bat first, Guwahati declared their 1st innings at 299/9 in 60.2 overs. Rajveer Singh led the charge with a well-crafted 79 (4X13, 6X2), while Abhinav Choudhury (71. 4X4, 6X6) and Subham Mandal (60, 4X12, 6X1) provided solid support. For the hosts, Selim Mostak Ahmed and Nur Azam claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Goalpara's batting crumbled under pressure, managing just 95 runs in the first innings in 23.4 overs. Sajjad Islam top-scored with 40, while Amullya Das added 22. Rohit Singh, introduced as the fifth bowler, wreaked havoc with a devastating spell that tore through the middle order. He finished with outstanding figures of 6 for 11 in just 7 overs. Forced to follow on, Goalpara reached 2 without loss at stumps, still trailing by 202 runs.
