GUWAHATI: The RP Barooah Masters T20 Cricket tournament witnessed its first tied match at the NFRSA Stadium, Maligaon, on Friday. Elite Veterans clinched a thrilling victory over 91 Yards Club in a Super Over.
Batting first, 91 Yards Club posted a competitive total of 160/5 in their 20 overs. Situ Das played a brilliant innings, scoring 73 off 53 balls (4x6, 6x3), while Rajendra Singh contributed an unbeaten 59 off 45 balls (4x6, 6x2). Imtaz Hussain was the pick of the bowlers, returning impressive figures of 4/19.
In response, Elite Veterans also managed 160, losing nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Shuhel Rahman top-scored with an unbeaten 57 off 33 balls (4x2, 6x1). Bichitra Baruah and Rajendra Singh shone with the ball for 91 Yards Club, claiming three wickets each.
In the Super Over, Elite Veterans set a target of seven runs, and 91 Yards Club fell agonizingly short by one run, handing Elite Veterans a hard-fought victory.
In another match, United Veterans registered a commanding 49-run victory over GDUCC. Riding on Abuddin Khan’s scintillating half-century (58 not out off 40 balls, 4x4, 6x3), United posted a total of 173/7. Utpal Gayari also contributed with a solid unbeaten 40.
Chasing 174, GDUCC could only manage 124/5 in their 20 overs. Diganta Thakuria top-scored with 40, but it was not enough to challenge the total.
