GUWAHATI: Assam opened their account in the 38th National Games medal tally with a silver on Wednesday, won by Sanma Brahma in Wushu.

There was more good news for Assam as three additional Wushu players—Priya Boro, Khudra Panging, and Elina Rabha—secured medals by advancing to the semi-finals in their respective categories. Additionally, the Assam women’s badminton team also confirmed a medal. However, the Assam women’s beach handball team fell short, losing both their semi-final and the third-place decider.

Wushu: Sanma, competing in the Taolu event, clinched silver with a score of 9.08, marking his third consecutive medal in the National Games.

Football: Assam made a strong start in football, defeating strong contenders Goa 3-2 in a thrilling match in Haldwani on Wednesday. Despite trailing 0-2, Assam made a remarkable comeback with goals from Akrang Narzary, Bishnu Bordoloi, and Dipu Mirdha. Their next match will be against Uttarakhand on February 1.

Shooting: Shooter Hriday Hazarika qualified for the final in the 10m Air Rifle event, securing seventh place in the qualification round with 630.2 points.

Beach Handball: The Assam women’s team lost the semi-final to Kerala 4-5 (via penalties) and later fall to Chhattisgarh 0-2 in the bronze medal match.

Squash: Manasree Rawat and Ishan Jain entered into the pre-quarter final defeating their respective opponents in Dehradun.
