GUWAHATI: The Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Express derailed near Cuttack in Odisha today. According to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, there were no casualties of passengers from Assam, barring those who sustained injuries. Willson Digal from Udalguri and Amiran Nisha from Baksa have sustained injuries. They are under treatment but out of danger.
The Chief Minister’s Office is in touch with the Odisha government and the railways. “We will reach out to each and every person who is affected,” the Chief Minister said.
The accident took place at around 11.54 am. Eleven coaches of the train jumped the tracks near the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway section of the East Coast Railway. Officials of East Coast Railway are yet to confirm the loss of life and the number of persons injured due to the derailment. PRO of East Coast Railway, Ashok Kumar Mishra, said that as per protocol, accident-relief trains and accident-relief medical vans from Khurda Road Division were immediately sent to the site.
