GUWAHATI/SIVASAGAR: In a significant development, a team from the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell on Saturday carried out simultaneous raids at the Guwahati, Sivasagar, and Dhemaji residences of Aswini Kumar Doley, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sivasagar Zilla Parishad, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
The raid in Guwahati was conducted at Doley's residence at Panjabari. Sources said documents and other materials were seized from the residence of the Sivasagar Zilla Parishad CEO. It was also revealed that Doley allegedly possessed several other properties in the city, besides his Panjabari house. The sleuths from the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell took a considerable time to complete their operation. However, no details regarding the seizures were revealed by the team.
Earlier, the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell had registered a disproportionate assets case (1/2025) against Doley after allegations were made regarding his possessing huge amounts of money, property, and other assets, which were not commensurate with his known sources of income. The assets were allegedly acquired during his tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sivasagar Zilla Parishad, as well as his posting as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district.
Our Sivasagar correspondent adds: A team from the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police and supported by the Sivasagar Police, conducted a raid on Saturday at the official residence of Aswini Kumar Doley, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sivasagar Zilla Parishad. The operation began around 8 a.m. and lasted for approximately five hours.
Following the search at Doley's official residence in Sivasagar town, the team proceeded to the Sivasagar Zilla Parishad office in Bishnu Nagar, where another two-hour-long search was conducted. The Vigilance Cell extensively scrutinized official files and scheme-related documents. However, no arrests were made during the operation.
According to sources, the raids extended simultaneously to Doley's residences in Guwahati, Dhakuakhana, and Gogamukh, and his wife's residence in Morigaon, reportedly in connection with a case involving allegations of disproportionate assets owned by him. The Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell has not disclosed any details regarding the findings or purpose of the raid to the media.
Aswini Kumar Doley, a former Executive Officer of the Sivasagar Municipal Board and Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district, served as the CEO of the Zilla Parishad for nearly three years. Recently transferred to the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as Joint Secretary on December 22, he had not yet assumed his new post.
Known as the younger brother of former Congress MLA Sumitra Patir and an actor, Doley had reportedly been intensifying his political activities. Speculation was rife that he might contest the 2026 elections as a Congress candidate from Dhakuakhana or Dhemaji.
The sudden raids at Doley's official residence and other properties have sparked widespread attention in Sivasagar.
