GUWAHATI: The Assam Government inked a new pact with OIL India Ltd (OIL) for oil extraction in three blocks in the state in the presence of the Minister for Mines and Minerals Jogen Mohan here on Wednesday.

Of the five blocks that the oil major got this year, three blocks are in Assam.

The Assam Government will receive Rs 4.53 crore annually from OIL for oil exploration in these three blocks.

The agreement got signed between the Joint Secretary, Director of Geology and Mining, Ananda Kumar Das and OIL's Executive Director (Frontier Basin) Indrajit Baruah in the presence of Minister Jogen Mohan, Principal Secretary of Mines and Minerals Department KK Dwivedi, Secretary Nandita Dutta and Additional Secretary Arpan Saikia, besides senior officials of State Government and OIL.

Mohan assured OIL that the State Government would extend all help and cooperation to the oil giant for its quest for hydrocarbon resources.

Mohan also said, "OIL is playing a crucial role in the economic growth of the state, through oil exploration and production of hydrocarbon." He said that OIL had been creating employment opportunities for the unemployed youth in the state, apart from setting up industries and other business activities in the region. In his address, OIL Executive Director Baruah said that OIL would make sincere efforts to achieve higher growth with the effective participation of all stakeholders.
