Guwahati: The number of polling stations in Assam has been increased in 2025, when compared to the total last year. The total number of polling stations increased by 1,011.

Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines stipulate that there should be one polling station for a maximum of 1500 voters. In light of this norm, the Election Department, Assam, rationalized the polling stations in the state. The rationalization exercise started in the last part of 2024.

As per ECI's directive, the final electoral roll 2025 was published by the Election Department, Assam, on January 6, 2025. After rationalization, the total number of polling stations in the state now stands at 29,656. This was revealed in the final photo electoral roll. Earlier, the total number of polling stations in the state was 28,645.

The highest number of polling stations is now in Mankachar Assembly Constituency with 357, followed by Dalgaon with 340 and Lahorighat with 333. The lowest number of 143 polling stations is in the Dotma Assembly Constituency. The second lowest is in Gossaigaon with 150 polling stations, and the third lowest number is in Doomdooma and Digboi, with 171 polling stations each.

Notably, the Jalukbari Assembly Constituency in Kamrup (Metro) district, represented by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has 222 polling stations. River island Majuli has 184 polling stations.

Some Assembly Constituencies across the state are Kokrajhar with 184 polling stations, Dhubri with 284, Goalpara East with 267, Bongaigaon with 226, Barpeta 217, Dispur 249, Nalbari 269, Mangaldai 238, Morigaon 270, Nagaon-Batadraba 242, Tezpur 211, Lakhimpur 196, Dhemaji 203, Tinsukia 209, Dibrugarh 229, Sivasagar 273, Jorhat 176, Golaghat 255, Haflong 256, and Silchar 236.
