Guwahati: Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on 3 October, were taken out of the CID headquarters this morning under tight security. The two are being presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, marking the end of their 14-day CID custody.

Their arrests are linked to the ongoing investigation into the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg — a case that has triggered widespread public outrage across Assam.

According to officials, the CID custody period expired on Thursday night, and both accused are expected to be moved to judicial custody later today. However, it remains unclear whether they will be lodged in Baksa Jail, Guwahati Central Jail, or another correctional facility.

Further legal proceedings are expected to follow after their court appearance.
