GUWAHATI: Taking charge from his predecessor Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta today, new DGP GP Singh cautioned the police personnel of the state on the alleged misbehaviour by the men in uniform to the public.

In his interaction with the media, the DGP said, "I am absolutely clear that bad behaviour shall not be tolerated in Assam Police at all." He said proper behaviour from the senior level will inspire the personnel at the police station level to behave properly.

On the ongoing projects, the DGP said, "I want to give a new pace to all the Assam Police projects currently underway. I will address the grievances of the police personnel. However, I expect them to dedicate themselves to public service. I want to provide a platform where the public can approach senior-level police officers. Every day, a senior-level officer should remain available for the public to approach, at least for two hours. We will also try our best to respond to the public on our social media platform."

He said the lack of toilet facilities is a common problem for women police personnel. "This makes them drink less water. And less intake of water leads to various health issues. Providing proper toilet facilities for women police personnel in fiscal 2023-24 will be one of my top priorities," he said.

IPS GP Singh joined the Assam Police in 1992 as an ASP in the Sonitpur district.
