
Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, the CID has arrested cultural event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma both prime accused in the singer’s death case.
Mahanta, who landed at Delhi Airport at 12:04 AM, was detained by the immigration department following a lookout notice. Siddharth Sharma was tracked down and arrested from a border area between Haryana and Delhi.
The two were flown to Guwahati in handcuffs and have been remanded to 14 days of CID custody. Officials confirmed that 12 BNS sections have been registered against them, with complaint number 18/25 linked to multiple FIRs filed across Assam.
During the operation, Zubeen’s mobile phone and other personal belongings were seized from Sharma’s possession, adding a crucial dimension to the investigation.
The arrests mark a significant escalation in the probe, with authorities under pressure to deliver justice amid widespread public outcry over the untimely demise of Assam’s cultural icon.
