The move will also ensure that the local youth is given preference in the recruitment process in these five Battalions. The move will also strengthen the overall security network across Assam.

Sources in the Home Department also revealed the details of these five battalions. Accordingly, the 2nd Assam Commando Battalion (Operation) will come up at Birsima in Hailakandi District of Barak Valley; the 3rd Assam Commando Battalion (Operation) at Doldoli in Karbi Anglong; the 4th Assam Commando Battalion (Operation) at Geleki, Kalabari in Sivasagar; the 5th Assam Commando Battalion (Urban Operation & law & Order) at Pabhoi at Biswanath; and the 6th Assam Commando Battalion (Urban Operation & law & Order) at Ambikapur in Sadiya under Tinsukia District.

The Assam government has also created 800 posts in each of these five Assam Police Battalions. There will be gazetted and also non-gazetted posts in these five new Battalions.

A Commandant of the SP (Superintendent of Police) rank will be lead each Comando Battalion. Each proposed Commando Battalion will have three Deputy Commandants (of the Additional SP rank); and seven Assistant Commandants (of the Deputy SP rank).

The sanction order of the State Home Department has also clarified that "the Assam government has no objection to filling up the newly created posts in the five Assam Police commando Battalions during fiscal 2021-2022.
