Shekhawat said, “This Mart is a remarkable opportunity for Northeast to showcase its rich cultural diversity to the world and also offer a platform for people from across the globe to witness the extraordinary heritage of this region.”
The Assam Chief Minister said, “This mart offers the international students and global influencers an immersive opportunity to explore the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness. This event will highlight the vast potential of tourism in the Northeast not just as an industry but as a transformative force for cultural exchange, ecological preservation, and economic development.”
In his speech, the Assam Chief Minister requested the Union Tourism Minister to ensure the inclusion of Majuli in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, besides the setting up of a tourism museum each at New Delhi and Guwahati to showcase the culture, heritage, etc. of the Northeast. Such a step, the Assam Chief Minister said, will surely boost the footfall of domestic as well as foreign tourists to the northeastern states.
The Assam Chief Minister called upon all stakeholders and entrepreneurs involved in the tourism industries to collaborate in the development of the sector, underscoring the importance of unified efforts. He emphasised that as a global engine for economic development, tourism is of particular importance to developing economies, where it contributes significantly to GDP and serves as a vital source of employment, especially in areas where industrialisation is limited.
