GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the latest flood & erosion and COVID-19 situation in Assam on Friday. The Prime Minister also announced that the Centre would extend ex gratia amounting to Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each the people killed in floods in Assam.

In a telephonic talk with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the Prime Minister expressed solidarity with the people of the State and said that the Central Government stands shoulder to shoulder with the efforts of the Assam Government to overcome the challenging situations. He also assured the Chief Minister of all kinds of supports from the Union Government to the State Government to tide over the present crisis situation.

During the talk, Sonowal apprised the Prime Minister of the havoc wrought by the latest wave of flood, which has submerged vast tract of agricultural land in the State and crippled normal life. He said that several districts are reeling under flood and this has caused huge damage to crops and disrupted communication network in different areas. Besides, erosion and landslides have also severely impacted the State and claimed several lives.
