Lumding, a municipal town and Assembly Constituency falls under the Nowgong Lok Sabha constituency. According to the 2011 census, Lumding has a total of 31347 population. The official language of the place is Bengali and festivals like Durga Puja, Janmashtmi, Van Mahotsav, Sitala puja and many more festivals are celebrated there.

Hojai is the newly formed districts, which was formed in 15 August 2016 from three tehsils of the Nagaon district. The district headquarter is situated at Sankardev Nagar with a distance of about 8 km from Hojai town. The district covers a 1686 km square area. A large number of people in Hojai are dependent upon agriculture. The district also has small-scale industries, such as Agar Wood Distillation units, Saw Mills and Bamboo and Cane furniture's Manufacturing units. The official language of the district is Assamese. There are three Assembly constituencies under the district i.e., Jamunamukh Assembly constituency, Hojai Assembly constituency and Lumding Assembly Constituency.
The only town, under Lumding Assembly, is Lumding town. The town is divided into 13 wards.
In the Assembly election 2016, the Lumding Constituency had a total of 182205 voters and out of them, the total number of valid voters was 156401. In the election, a candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party named Sibu Misra won the election with 72072 votes and the runner up was Netra Ranjan Mahanta of the Indian National Congress Party who secured 41672 votes.
According to the latest census report released in 2011, the total population in Lumding is 31347 from which the males are 15909 and the females are 15438. Out of total people, 5.4% of people are of Schedule Cast and 0.5% is that of Schedule Tribe. Religion-wise, the Hindu religion has 97.23% of people and the Muslim religion has 1.45% of people.

In the Assembly Election of 2016, Sibu Misra of the BJP won the election with 46.05% of the overall votes. Netra Ranjan Mahanta of the INC party was the runner up, with 26.62% out of total votes. Swapan Kar of All India United Democratic Front secured 24.96%, Kamrul Islam Barbhuyan of JNCP secured 0.48%. The IND candidates, Ujjal Deb and Kamal Patar secured 0.71% and 0.39% respectively. 0.79% of the vote went to the option 'none of the above'.

Among all the candidates that contested, the candidate who emerged as the winner of 2016 Lumding election was Sibu Misra who belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party with 46.05% votes and defeated Netra Ranjan of the Indian National Congress party, who secured 26.62%.
In the last five years, the MLA of Lumding, Sibu Misra has inaugurated many roads in Lumding under the scheme called 'Assam Darshan Scheme'.
In 2021 upcoming Assam assembly election, different parties have laid out their manifestos to the people so that they can win the election.
The BJP has made decisions about involving public opinions so they announced that hundreds of vehicles with audio-visual presentation will tour Assam in order to know about the needs of the public. And the people can also make a miss call in order to state their needs. The party, already providing almost 8000 old namgarhs with 250000 rupees each, also promised to increase the benefits of other namgarhs as well. They have also provided land pattas to landless people.
Congress party's manifesto mentions the waiver of microfinance loans of all types for women to ease the problems of women of villages who are involved in taking loans from microfinance organisation. The party also promised free electricity up to 120 units so that it will be a relief for the poor and middle-class people and they will not have to pay a large amount of bill every month
The party also ensured that a member of each family will have a job to prevent unemployment and poverty by adopting the policy of 'one family, one job'.
