12 hour Assam Bandh by Krishak Shramik Unnayan Parishad on Dec 30 called off

Guwahati: The 12-hour Assam Bandh called by Krishak Shramik Unnayan Parishad (KSUP) and seven other organizations on December 30, 2019, was called off.

Informing the matter in a press statement, KSUP said, “We learned that on December 30 a number of examinations are to take place in various institutions and universities. Hence, for the benefit of the students, we have decided to lift the bandh, however, the organization will continue its protest against CAA 2019 and will stage a 3-hour sit-in protest on December 30.”

Notably, the 12-hour bandh from 5 am to 5 pm was called by the KSUP to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Meanwhile, the members of the group also called for the release of peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi.

Gogoi, who was leading the antiCAA agitation in upper Assam was arrested by the Assam Police on December 12 from Jorhat and later handed over to the National Investigation Agency

The group insisted that the protests should be carried out in a democratic and peaceful manner.
