Guwahati: Looking into the ongoing adversities of the people of the state, the All Moran Students' Union (AMSU) on Friday decided to temporarily suspend the indefinite economic blockade from today onwards.

The economic blockade was launched by various regional committees of All Moran Students Union (AMSU) in association with its Lekang unit in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh from January 20.

It may be mentioned that the economic blockade was launched by the All Moran Students Union (AMSU) and other Moran organizations demanding to scrap the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, granting ST Status to Moran community, conferring Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) to the indigenous Moran people living in Arunachal Pradesh and scrapping the decision to privatized oil fields.

Speaking to the media, AMSU Central President, Arunjyoti Moran said, "On Thursday, AMSU along with various regional committees Moran communities held a meeting with the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with other ministers of the state, however, no solution has come out during the meeting. The Government had failed to consider our demands, thus we decided to continue with our agitation. But, looking into the adversities and other issues of the public we conducted a meeting today and decided to temporarily suspend our economic blockade."

AMSU President also clarified the fact that the withdrawal of the economic blockade is to show our support to the people of Assam.

"We want an immediate solution to our issues and by January 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will have to consider our demands and they will have to conduct a meeting with us immediately," adding, "From January 31, we will be launching our ongoing agitation. From January 31 to February 5, the Government will have to table the bill in the Parliament and confer Schedule Tribe (ST) status to the Moran Community else we will be bound to continue with our indefinite economic blockade," AMSU warned.
