Allahabad High Court, on Friday, upholds the death penalty of a rape convict who was being awarded the same punishment a session court in 2014. Challenging the judgments made by the session court, the 31-year-old man convicted of raping and killing a minor girl had appealed at the Allahabad High Court, but in return gets the same punishment being awarded to him now.

The rape convict Putai was accompanied by another man Dileep who was punished with a life imprisonment by the 30124 session court and the Allahabad High Court too upholds the same punishment for the rape convict.

Although the duo had pleaded the high court for relaxations in their punishments, the court decided that the crime committed by them was brutal and inhumane for which they are eligible to receive harsh punishments only.

Lucknow bench of Justice R R Awasthi and Justice Mahendra Dayal said, "The manner in which the crime has been committed reflects the mental condition of the appellants. In order to satisfy their lust, (they) committed rape on a minor girl and thereafter killed her and also tried to conceal the evidence by throwing her body in a nearby field...."

They added, "The injuries found on the body of the deceased girl also reflect the manner in which she was subjected to rape and one can imagine as to how much pain she must have suffered during the commission of a crime by the appellants."

Thanking the justices for their commendable judgment, Government advocate Vimal Srivastava said that the judgment passed by the bench of justice is rightly made.
