Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has reached full household coverage in electricity supply and functional tap-water connections, marking a major expansion of basic infrastructure across the state, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said on Saturday.
Khandu highlighted the achievement while reviewing the state’s development over the past decade, saying access to essential services had expanded significantly since 2016.
According to figures shared by the Chief Minister, only about 1.48 lakh households in the state had electricity connections in 2016, covering nearly 49 per cent of households. The number has now risen to around 3.02 lakh, taking the state’s household electrification rate to 100 per cent.
The state has also witnessed a sharp increase in access to piped drinking water. In 2016, functional tap connections were available in just 22,796 households, accounting for 9.9 per cent coverage.
By 2026, the number of households with functional tap connections has increased to 2,28,566, which Khandu said represents complete coverage and a 903 per cent growth over the period.
The Chief Minister described electricity and drinking water as two critical indicators of grassroots development and said the progress reflected the expansion of basic services across Arunachal Pradesh.
Khandu reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that development programmes translate into tangible benefits for people across the state, particularly at the household level.
The announcement comes amid the state’s continued focus on improving infrastructure and extending essential services to remote and geographically challenging areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
