Silchar: Assam Police on Friday seized a large consignment of suspected narcotic substances worth around Rs 2 crore from Gosaipur in Udharbond, Cachar district, and arrested one person in connection with the seizure.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation on social media, saying police recovered 15,900 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup and 2,600 Tramadol capsules during the operation.
According to the Chief Minister, the consignment was allegedly stored in a godown at Gosaipur, while police had maintained surveillance outside the premises before carrying out the seizure.
Cachar Police has arrested one person in connection with the case.
Sarma praised Assam Police and Cachar Police for the operation and highlighted the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal movement of drugs and other narcotic substances in the state.
Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the seized substances, their intended destination and the involvement of others in the alleged network.
