Dibrugarh: A group of 30 tea garden workers from the Manohari tea estate in Assam’s Dibrugarh district has left for a pilgrimage to Ayodhya and Varanasi, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the estate.

The workers are set to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple as part of the initiative.

While speaking to a news agency, Rajan Lohia, trustee of the Late Jhabarmal Lohia Charitable Trust, said the idea was inspired by the Prime Minister’s recent visit.

He noted that Modi had expressed the view that tea garden workers should get the opportunity to see other parts of the country.

"PM Modi said tea garden workers should get a chance to see other parts of the country. Under this initiative, 30 workers are travelling to Ayodhya and Kashi. He shared the idea during his visit to the tea estate, where he also plucked tea leaves," he added.

According to Lohia, the initiative took shape after the Prime Minister’s interaction with workers at the estate, where he also plucked tea leaves during his visit.

Earlier this week, Modi visited a tea garden in Dibrugarh, interacted with workers and praised their contribution, describing tea as the “soul of Assam.”

The visit came ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.
