New Delhi: In a major twist to the Ayodhya case, the Sunni Waqf board surrendered its claim over the disputed land in Ayodhya, a media report stated.

As per media reports, the decision came in light of an agreement reached between a few parties during the mediation proceedings, at the final leg of the hearing on the 2.77 acres disputed land.

Notably, Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi earlier notified that the historic hearing of the 134-year-old title suit will conclude today by 5 pm. It may be mentioned that this is the 40th day of the hearing.

Furthermore, media reports also state that the mediators would submit a new report before the Supreme Court intimidating an "agreement" reached between a few parties in the contentious Ayodhya case.

As per the new report, the first reference of the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute was in 1822 by a Faizabad court official. The Faizabad civil court order in 1949 came which stated, "all the three sets of parties, that is Muslims, Hindus and Nirmohi Akhara are declared joint title holders of the property/premises in dispute to the extent of one-third share each for using and managing the same for worshipping."

Earlier, on September 19, the Sunni Waqf Board had welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to pave the way for the mediation panel to resume talks over the Ayodhya land dispute. Furthermore, the Sunni Board also stated in a press statement on its stance on the issue that a mutual amicable settlement will be beneficial for both the communities.
