Dibrugarh: In a significant move aimed at enhancing administrative infrastructure in Upper Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to lay the foundation stone today for a sprawling new government complex in Dibrugarh. This ambitious project, estimated at ₹65 crore, marks a major milestone in the state’s efforts to decentralize key administrative functions and bring top-level governance closer to the people of the region.
The proposed complex will include state-of-the-art office blocks to accommodate ministers, the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, and other senior officials. In addition to these administrative offices, the project also features a modern convention centre equipped with contemporary amenities to host official events, meetings, and conferences.
According to government sources, the new complex is strategically designed to strengthen governance in Upper Assam by facilitating quicker decision-making and more efficient service delivery. It is also expected to ease the administrative burden on Guwahati, which currently houses the bulk of Assam’s government machinery. By relocating several high-level offices to Dibrugarh, the initiative aims to ensure better accessibility for citizens and streamline inter-departmental coordination.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony is set to be a grand event, with the presence of senior government officials, local leaders, and community representatives. Public participation is also anticipated, as residents view the project as a symbol of development and inclusion for the region.
This project is part of the state government’s broader vision of balanced regional development, and it reflects a long-term commitment to improving the administrative framework across Assam. Once completed, the complex is expected to not only enhance operational efficiency but also serve as a catalyst for further infrastructural growth and urban development in and around Dibrugarh.
