Hard Luck! Lovlina Borgohain settles for Bronze at World Women’s Boxing C’ship in Russia

Guwahati: Assam Boxer Lovlina Borgohain settles for a bronze medal while she was defeated by China’s Yang Liu in the 69kg category in a split decision of 2:3 to end her campaign at the AIBA World Boxing Championship.

Similarly, Boxer Jamuna Boro went down by 0-5 in the Semi-Finals against her Chinese opponent Huang Hsiao-Wen in the 54Kg to win a Bronze Medal on debut at the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship 2019.

Notably, Six-time champion, MC Mary Kom also lost her semi-final bout against second seed Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey in the ongoing Women’s World Boxing Championship on Saturday and will be taking the bronze back home.

However, India still can hope for gold as Indian Boxer Manju Rani made history by becoming the first women boxer to reach the finals of AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship on debut after 18 years. Manju Rani defeated her Thai opponent Chuthamat Raksat by 4-1 to seal her berth in the 48kg category of the World Women’s Boxing Championship 2019.

Earlier, Manipur Boxer MC Mary Kom had reached the finals of AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship in the year 2001.
