NEW DELHI – Delhi and its surrounding regions were battered by heavy rain on Thursday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to escalate its weather warning to a red alert. The deluge triggered widespread waterlogging and traffic chaos, particularly in low-lying areas, just days before Independence Day.

In Delhi-NCR—covering Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad—key roads were submerged, causing gridlocked commutes and snarling traffic. Commuters were seen wading knee-deep through waterlogged underpasses and congested lanes. Authorities advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and suggested using alternative routes to ease the chaos.
