Facebook appoints Hotstar's Ajit Mohan as managing director and vice-president in India. He will join facebook early next year. He will succeed Umang Bedi as Facebook India's Managing Director & Vice President.
He will be responsible for Facebook India strategy and investments.
Ajit Mohan to report into Manlo Park.presently he is the CEO of Hotstar, an India based digital and mobile entertainment platform. He launched and built Hotstar into India's leading premium video streaming platform which is growing popular day by day.
This new development of facebook India was announced by Star India CEO Uday Shankar in a company town hall, as reported by the Economic Times.
Facebook India's head post went vacant when its former managing director Umang Bedi's left in October last year. Since then for one year facebook has been searching for the right person in India, who can lead the world's biggest social media company in India which also has largest users of facebook.
Mohan will be responsible for Facebook's India strategy and for driving the company's ongoing large-scale investment in India. He will lead a senior leadership team in India which will build up Facebook's relationships with people, government and businesses, as well as intensifying the company's efforts to reach out to people in India and connect them with people and things they care about most.

Mohan will also play an essential role in line with Facebook’s strategy to delink India’s operations from the Asia-Pacific region. Typically, India’s country heads would report to Singapore-based senior executives.
Mohan is an alumnus of McKinsey and Company’s, an American based Management Consulting Firm's New York office where he worked with media companies around the globe as well as served as a Fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute, where he centered on India's rapid urbanization. He is a graduate of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
