New Delhi: In the latest development in the house arrest case of five activists, the house arrest period of the activists has been extended till September 12 by the Supreme Court on Thursday. The Supreme Court also adjourned to September 12 as the next date for the hearing of the plea that challenges the house arrest of the activists.
It may be mentioned that last week, the Supreme Court describing dissent as a safety valve, directed that the five human rights activists arrested by Pune Police should be kept under house arrest until the next date of hearing on September 6. Taking a dim view of the crackdown, Justice Chandrachud said: “Dissent is a safety valve of democracy. If it is not allowed, the pressure cooker will burst.”
