Indian and Chinese Army Jointly Celebrate 5th International Yoga Day 

Guwahati: In a first of its kind of event along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the Eastern Border, a total of seventy personnel of Chinese Army and thirty civilians participated in joint Yoga sessions with Indian Army troops at Nathu La (Sikkim) and at Bumla & Wacha-Damai in Arunachal Pradesh.

Participation of Chinese Army Personnel in such an event during Border Personnel Meetings will go a long way in promoting peace & tranquility along the borders.

The event assumes significance against the backdrop of 21 June 2019 which is being celebrated by India as 5th International Yoga Day.

"Yoga Day 2019" Celebrated All Across Eastern Command

Eastern Command with an aim to promote the better mental and physical health of people through Yoga celebrated 5th International Yoga Day on the theme 'Yoga for Heart' all over the Command theatre on 21 June 2019.

A large number of troops, their families and local citizens participated from far-flung areas of the East and North Eastern region to spread awareness and promote a healthy lifestyle. Various workshops were organized by the units of Eastern Command at Kolkata, Dimapur, Shillong, Tezpur, Tenga, Missamari, Tawang, Sukna, Panagarh and all other military stations involving the local population to create awareness about Yoga and encouraging people to incorporate this form of exercise as a means to achieve a healthy life.

Prime Minister performs Yoga at an event in Jharkhand

It is to be noted that in India, the birthplace of yoga, the celebration gets massive with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi being one of the prime followers of it. PM Modi joined a huge mass yoga event in Jharkhand capital city Ranch.

Participating in the event, Narendra Modi said he "wanted to make yoga an integral part of the lives of the poor." The mass yoga event in Ranchi witnessed the participation of around 30,000 people who attuned to performing asanas together.

Pointing at the merits one can drive from the regular practice of yoga, Modi further added, "Diseases make a poor person poorer; I want to take yoga from cities to the villages, to the jungles, to the poor and the adivasis (tribals). Yoga belongs to everyone and everyone belongs to Yoga."

Other union ministers like Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others made visits to different parts of the country to participate at the mega yoga events across the country. This year, India celebrates the International Yoga Day with the theme "climate action".
