The SC/ST and Dalit communities staging a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar are lately being joined by Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. The protesters are demanding for a release of their leaders who were arrested under criminal charges after April’s Bharat Bandh. The protesters are also demanding for an arrest of all those who are involved in atrocities against the Dalits. They wants the Madhya Pradesh government to immediately make a public statement in context to the statement made by Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and make this announce that atrocity cases against Dalits will be scrutinised on priority basis along with an arrest of the guilty.

By extending his support to the Dalit protesters, Rahul Gandhi says that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to “marginalise” the weaker sections. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Dalits to remain marginalised. If Modi had place for Dalits in his heart, his policies would have shown it by now.PM Modi had written in one of his books that it feels good when the house has been cleaned by a Dalit. I assure you, the Congress will not let the SC/ST Act to be diluted.”

Also bringing in one of the slogans by the BJP government, for 2019, ‘Saaf Neeyat, Sahi Vikas’ (Good Intention, Right Development), Gandhi mocked that the Prime Minister only do not have ‘saaf neeyat’, i.e., Good Intention. The Congress President asserted, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Dalits to remain marginalised. If Modi had place for Dalits in his heart, his policies would have shown it by now. I assure you; the Congress will not let the SC/ST Act to be diluted."

Gandhi, speaking on behalf of Congress, made sure that they want the government to place the Act in 9th Schedule to prevent it from any interference in future.

CPM's Sitaram Yechury is another political person to be present at Jantar Mantar with Rahul Gandhi.
